The Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) program was approved by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and the California Department of Education (CDE) following the COVID-19 outbreak in response to school and child care closures in the US state. It is a federal program that provides food benefits to eligible households to make up for the in-person school meals that children who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic missed. The fifth phase of the program, known as P-EBT 3.0, has been in operation in California. This phase aims to provide benefits to children under the age of six as well as children who are currently in school for the upcoming school year.
