I am a freelance tech writer. Some of my clients require their writers to use Grammarly, and it drives me crazy with its “suggestions” that are just not grammatically correct. It doesn’t recognize many of the elements of complex sentences, which leads to incorrect subject-verb agreement. It also doesn’t recognize that stripping out every word it deems unnecessary also strips out nuances of meaning and makes every text sound like a second grade reader.
My students would always trust those grammar checkers utterly without ever checking the checker, which resulted in some hilarious mistakes. So the best grammar checker is you - if you spend some time with some good grammar guides, learn how the language works and go over your texts carefully before you send them off.
