SEOUL (Reuters) – Member of the boy band supergroup BTS, K-pop singer Suga showed up before police on Friday for additional interrogation over a drunk driving on an electric scooter case.
The rapper and songwriter apologized earlier this month after authorities fined him and revoked his license for riding the e-scooter intoxicated.
"I really regret it. After appearing at the police station, Suga told reporters he really regrets disappointing many individuals and supporters.
Wearing a black suit and a deep bow, Suga added, "I will really participate in the investigation, and again I am sorry."
Media sources claimed that police investigate his consumption level and the reason he drove after drinking. Police had sent him home on the day of the event as he was so intoxicated that he did not answer their inquiries appropriately, local newspapers reported.
Suga rode the scooter and stumbled when parking at night, according to his label Big Hit Music, which is a division of K-pop company HYBE. The label says he failed a police-conducted breath test.
Near HYBE headquarters, some enraged supporters set floral wreaths with messages on boards demanding him to leave the band.
HYBE made no quick remarks.
Following their announcement of a June 2022 sabbatical from group efforts, BTS members have engaged in solo pursuits before to beginning military duty.
Suga, 31, has been working in social service to fulfill his military obligation.
