Starting on Sept. 11 at the UBS Arena in New York, Megan Thee Stallion—who entered the program with seven nominations—serves as both the host and one of the evening performers in the annual ceremony. (Click this link to see every famous visitor.)
And there was intense rivalry for the much-coveted Moon Person this year. Notching an amazing 12 nominations as the pack of candidates' leader, Taylor Swift demonstrated that her summer had been everything but unkind.
Her "Fortnight" duet partner Post Malone, for his contribution on both the Tortured Poets Department track and his "I Had Some Help" collab with Morgan Wallen, scored 11—including two in the Best Collaboration category.
With eight, Eminem trailed closely in nominations; Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each had seven; SZA had six.
Beyoncé also wanted to beat her record as the most-winning artist in MTV VMAs past. With three nominations, including Song of the Year for "Texas Hold 'Em," the singer had great potential to add to her already-impressive collection of thirty VMAs, which includes the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award she earned in 2014.
Katy Perry was named the recipient for the non-competitive award this year.
