Based on the study, authored by Jack Smith, Trump “continued to promote baseless statements of fraud regarding the presidential election” and “egged on his followers to engage in physical aggression” on January 6 when storming the U.S. Capitol. The text also suggests that in case the American president had not secured a landside victory in 2024 he would stand prosecuted for his offenses.

"The claim from Trump that my decisions as a prosecutor were influenced or directed by the Biden administration or other political actors is, in a word, laughable," said Special Counsel Jack Smith in response to Trump's charges.

The DOJ investigation goes into detail about Trump's purported efforts to coerce state representatives and his vice president at the time, Mike Pence, into abusing his ceremonial position in Congress by certifying the election results.
