In the middle of the 2010s Quan was among the most well-known names in hip-hop. Before he cracked in 2013 with the contagious "Type of Way," he put out a lot of mixtapes. The song became so popular that Jeezy and Meek Mill among other other rappers jumped on the remix. Maintaining his momentum, he appeared on a YG single featuring Jeezy and released the London on da single-produced song "Lifestyle" via his Rich Gang rap collective, which comprised Young Thug and Birdman.

Quan checked in with "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)," a song created by DJ Spinz and Nitti Beatz. At No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 list, it became his top charting solo single. Lil Dicky also included him on her viral "$ave Dat Money."

Quan debuted his first and only studio album "Rich as in Spirit," largely devoid of features except for "Think About It," a song featuring Rick Ross in 2018.

Among the musicians honoring Quan on social media are Quavo, Lil Boosie and Playboi Carti.

"Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan," singer Jacquees said on X, also referring to him as a "legend". "I Love you for Life."

Quan talked with The Associated Press in 2022 about picking back up music following a sudden break. The rapper claimed at the time he was undergoing litigation with indie label T.I.G. (Think It's a Game Record), but he was ready to return.

Quan developed a conflict with his former friend Young Thug, who along with rapper Gunna were among a group charged with conspiracy to violate Georgia's RICH Act and also suspected of involvement in a criminal street gang.

Quan said he was willing to talking with Young Thug should the chance arise and there was no conflict between them. He stated he detested to see Young Thug locked up and that law enforcement was targeting artists.

"I wouldn't say unfairly targeted since at the same time some of these rappers are putting guns in videos and, you know, it's like social media - it goes back to the social media thing," he remarked.

"You know what I mean? We seem to be displaying far too much. That's the difference in my music; I'm a storyteller but I ain't gonna to tell you how I did it." he said. "We are clearly being attacked, yet Black art is still here. Thus, I pay great attention to what I convey in my music.
